Aston Villa close in on Matteo Ruggeri with medical due | OneFootball

Aston Villa are working to complete the signing of Matteo Ruggeri from Atletico Madrid within 48 hours, with a medical scheduled, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

The Italian left-back has arrived in Birmingham as he closes on a move to the Premier League, in a deal worth around £17 million.

Villa turned to Ruggeri after efforts to prise Pervis Estupinan from AC Milan stalled last month.

The 24-year-old will replace Lucas Digne in Unai Emery’s squad following the latter’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

Ruggeri made 47 appearances for Atletico last season after joining from Atalanta.

Emery also wants to add a right-back, with West Ham’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka on his list of targets. The 28-year-old is valued by the Hammers at around £25 million.

Villa, meanwhile, are continuing efforts to strike a deal with Bayern Munich for midfielder Joao Palhinha.
