Aston Villa are closing in on the signing of winger Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain, a long-term target for Unai Emery.

ExpressAndStar.com reports that the clubs have agreed a deal worth around £47 million, putting the Senegal international on course to become the club’s ninth addition of the window as part of a revamped attack.

Villa had been in negotiations with AC Milan for Portugal forward Rafael Leao but faced stern competition from Galatasaray, who had already agreed a fee with the Italian club. Mbaye would be the second winger to arrive this summer after Alejandro Garnacho joined on loan from Chelsea.

Striker Nicolas Jackson completed his move from Chelsea earlier on Friday for an initial £47.5 million. The 25-year-old could make his debut in Monday’s home match against Premier League champions Arsenal, alongside free agent midfielder Leon Goretzka.

Jackson’s arrival has coincided with the departure of Ollie Watkins to Al-Hilal for a fee of more than £50 million. The England international and his representatives travelled to Saudi Arabia on Friday morning to finalise the move. Villa are targeting a defender before Tuesday’s deadline to replace Ezri Konsa, who joined Arsenal last week.
