Aston Villa handed Joao Palhinha boost as Bayern Munich ‘to move him on’

Aston Villa have been handed encouragement over Joao Palhinha after Bayern Munich’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, said the midfielder would not play an important role. “They’re training with us, but they won’t play an important role here,” he told Abendzeitung.

“They’re both good players. They’ll continue to train and play here for now, but the plan is for them to take the next step somewhere else.”

Despite featuring in a friendly against Wehen Wiesbaden, Palhinha is said to have been told he does not figure in Vincent Kompany’s plans, alongside full-back Sacha Boey.

The former Fulham midfielder spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur and has been linked with a move to Villa Park.
