Unai Emery has confirmed that John McGinn and Youri Tielemans are both set for spells out injured.

McGinn limped off against Everton and is now set for a possible two months out.

Meanwhile, Youri Tielemans is set for more than two months out after going off injured against Newcastle.

It follows the blow of losing Boubacar Kamara, who is unlikely to play again this season with a serious knee injury.

“We know about Kamara, McGinn and Tielemans,” Emery said ahead of the Europa League game against RB Salzburg.

“Kamara is a long time, I think he’s not going to play this season. McGinn, more or less, is 6-8 weeks out, and Tielemans is 8-10 weeks out.

“After those updates of those players, we need to see how we can manage centre midfielders in the matches we are going to play.”

But in more positive news, Ross Barkley is closing in on a return to action.

“Ross Barkley is coming back in a few days,” Emery said. “He has been training individually but he’s so close to joining us.”

Villa are also close to completing the loan signing of former midfielder Douglas Luiz to ease their injury problems in the centre of the park.

But defender Andres Garcia is set for a spell out with a hamstring injury in another setback for Emery’s side.

“After the centre midfielders, Andres García is out for three weeks,” Emery explained. “He has a hamstring injury, a small injury.”
