Aston Villa have reached an agreement in principle with Poland international Matty Cash over a new deal, according to The Athletic.

The Villa defender has played 191 games for the Villa Park club since joining them from Nottingham Forest in September 2020.

Cash was due to be out of a contract at Villa in 2027 having signed his last deal in April 2022, but he has signed a new extension until 2029, with the option of a further one year.

The 28-year-old has been rewarded for his incredible performances for the Midlands club having been a key player under manager Unai Emery.

Cash made 38 appearances across all competitions for Villa last season and has started all 11 games they have played so far this term.

The England-born inverted right-back has 11 goals and 12 assists for the Villans since joining them and will hope to keep contributing positively at both ends of the pitch.

Villa recently handed Lucas Digne a new deal while captain John McGinn is also close to signing a new contract.

They are also hoping Morgan Rogers will sign a new deal amid interest from several Premier League rivals.

Villa have been on an impressive run in recent weeks, winning their last five games across all competitions after failing to win their opening six games of 2025-26.

Cash has been crucial to their resurgence and will hope to end this season with a major silverware as the Midlands club look to mount credible challenges across all competitions.

Villa visit Go Ahead Eagles in the Europa League on Thursday and they will look to maintain the winning start to their European campaign this term following earlier victories over Bologna and Feyenoord.

They then host Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday and a win over the former champions will send a statement of intent to other domestic rivals.
