According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are plotting a move for Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph as Dean Smith eyes a back-up to Jed Steer.
The Villans are looking to extend their transfer spree by bringing the English goalkeeper to Villa Park while making a flurry of signings already.
The Boro shot-stopper has a contract with the club until 2021.
The 32-year-old has been a regular for Boro over the past two seasons, playing around 100 games. In the 2018/19 season, the Irish man was exceptional as he kept 19 clean sheets, the second most in the Championship next to Dean Henderson.
And his incredible displays between the sticks allowed him to bag Boro’s Player of the Season award.
The Republic of Ireland’s No. 1 has tons of experience under his belt, playing for many clubs in England and Scotland throughout his career.
His longest yet most successful spell was with Millwall thus far.
Elsewhere at Villa Park, Smith is deprived of the goalkeepers as Steer remains his one and only viable option.
The 26-year-old is the unanimous choice for the Lions’ No. 1 in next season’s Premier League for his miraculous set of displays, which helped his side earn a promotion in the end.
And other available options include Lovre Kalinic, who is a big flop, and Orjan Nyland, who is yet to make his return from injury.
Given the situation, Villa can seek the services of Randolph, who is also at the top of his game now. His wealthy experience with English football will be an added advantage for the Lions next season.

First and foremost, the Lions should hand Randolph enough game time in order to get the best out of him. And with a season of hectic fixtures on the cards, Villans rotating the Irish man with Steer would be the best decision in order to sustain a place in the Premier League.
The Lions are keeping tabs over Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland and Burnely’s Tom Heaton, who would be expected to cost quite a lot of dimes. Yet, they can avail the services of Randolph and that would be smart business for the Lions.
