Aston Villa are unlikely to pursue Marcus Rashford this summer, despite renewed uncertainty over the forward’s future.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, Rashford is due to rejoin Manchester United for pre-season after Barcelona opted against triggering their permanent purchase option.
Unai Emery remains a keen admirer of the 28-year-old, and Villa can offer Champions League football next season, but spending is restricted by UEFA financial fair play. Rashford’s current wage, around £325,000 a week, sits well beyond the club’s pay structure.
Should he leave United permanently this summer, his preference remains a move abroad.
Rashford scored 14 goals and supplied 14 assists while on loan with Barcelona this season, yet the Catalan club did not take up a £26 million option. A lower fee could still be negotiated later in the window.
Emery’s focus is on adding depth to his attack, with a striker and two wide players on the list. The manager would also like to recruit a right-back.
