Aston Villa will be desperate to secure their first Premier League win of the season on Sunday when they host an in-form Fulham at Villa Park.
Unai Emery’s side are winless in their opening five games and sit in the relegation zone. They do, however, boast a remarkable historical record against the Cottagers, having won the last five consecutive meetings. Fulham, meanwhile, are aiming for a third straight league victory.
Unai Emery’s main concern is the fitness of goalkeeper Emi Martínez, who faces a late fitness test after missing the midweek European fixture. The manager is also without key midfielders Youri Tielemans and Amadou Onana. Emery will need to assess the rest of his squad after a short turnaround from Thursday’s game.
Marco Silva has a nearly full-strength squad to choose from. Timothy Castagne and Harrison Reed are both available again after minor knocks, while Silva has also hinted that a player named Kevin could be fit enough for the squad. Emile Smith Rowe is pushing for a start after his midweek cup goal.
The hosts are enduring one of their worst-ever starts to a league season, having failed to win any of their first five matches. A midweek 1-0 Europa League victory over Bologna provided some much-needed respite, but their league form, particularly at home where they have not scored in two games, remains a major concern.
The Cottagers are in excellent form and are aiming for a third consecutive Premier League victory for the first time since January 2023. Their 3-1 comeback win over Brentford last weekend showcased their attacking threat. However, their away form is a worry, as they have conceded in every trip on the road this season.
Possible Aston Villa starting XI: Bizot; Digne, Mings, Konsa, Cash; Kamara, McGinn; Malen, Rogers, Guessand; Watkins
Possible Fulham starting XI: Leno; Tete, Andersen, Bassey, Robinson; Berge, Lukić; Kevin, King, Iwobi; Muniz.
The match will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League in the UK. Coverage begins at 1:30 pm BST.
