Aston Villa have announced that winger Samuel Iling-Junior has returned to Italy a month after signing from Serie A.

In July, he arrived in Birmingham as part of a deal that saw him joined by Enzo Barrenechea and Douglas Luiz move in the other direction to Juventus.

But he will be back in Serie A for the coming campaign by joining Bologna, who like Villa are also competing in the Champions League (in its modern guise) for the first time this season.

Although he was reportedly willing to deputise at left-back this season for Unai Emery, the club opted to loan him out in order to pick up regular playing time.

The deal does not include an option for a permanent transfer.
