The Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa is in its final preparations to host Independiente del Valle against Flamengo in the Libertadores quarter-finals, with attention on repairing a worn pitch.

According to Globo.com, the surface shows flaws, particularly near the goalmouths, and staff spent the day working to improve conditions for the 21:30 Brasília time kick-off.

Del Valle opted for Atahualpa due to its larger capacity, around 35,000, compared with the Estádio Banco Guayaquil’s 12,000. Attendance is expected to be 15,000 to 20,000, including about 1,500 Flamengo supporters. Tickets were promoted at $10 to $25, or R$ 51 to R$ 127.60.

Flamengo return to the Estádio Olímpico Atahualpa after six years. Their last visit was against Del Valle in February 2020 in the Recopa Sudamericana, a 2-2 draw in Ecuador. They sealed the title at the Maracanã with a 3-0 win.

Back then, under Jorge Jesus, Bruno Henrique and Pedro scored in Ecuador. The only other Flamengo match at the venue came in June 1952, their first trip to Ecuador, a 6-3 win over Boca Juniors de Cali of Colombia.
