Atalanta forward Charles De Ketelaere has admitted to having been in contact with Paris Saint-Germain during the summer transfer window. During a brief interview with La Derniere Heure via Calciomercato, the Belgian star confirmed that La Dea’s substantial asking price derailed his chances of leaving the club.

Despite flopping at Milan, De Ketelaere has since established himself as one of Serie A’s finest forwards. Indeed, the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength in Bergamo, becoming one of Atalanta’s key players over the past two years. However, he struggled for output last season, netting just three goals across 31 league appearances.

He has had an equally disappointing start to this campaign, going goalless in the opening five Serie A games. De Ketelaere and his Atalanta teammates are still adjusting to Maurizio Sarri’s style of play, with La Dea stuck in mid-table despite back-to-back wins at the start of the season.

De Ketelaere has revealed that PSG enquired about his services in the summer. However, Atalanta fended them off with an eye-watering €50 million asking price. In turn, Les Parisiens turned to Ferran Torres, who joined the club from Barcelona in late August.

“In the summer, several clubs were interested in signing me,” De Ketelaere stated. “But it’s not easy to leave when there are certain costs involved. Atalanta were asking for a lot, I think around €50 million to let me leave. I spoke with PSG, but in the end, they chose Ferran Torres.
