Alessio Romagnoli could join Atalanta before the window shuts, while Lazio are eyeing Ibe Hautekiet as a possible replacement.
Atalanta added Thomas Kristensen, 24, earlier this week, a loan with an obligation to buy worth about €20 million. Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla reports the Kristensen deal would not block a move for Romagnoli, and that Maurizio Sarri would welcome a reunion.
Lazio had agreed to sell the former AC Milan captain to Al-Sadd in June for €3 million, but the situation in Qatar prevented the transfer, so it collapsed for the second time in six months. He has since rejoined Gennaro Gattuso’s squad and behaved impeccably.
Il Corriere dello Sport reports both parties still prefer to part ways to avoid further embarrassment. The defender’s relationship with president Claudio Lotito is at a low, not least after his farewell to supporters was broadcast during a large protest.
Il Corriere dello Sport identifies Ibe Hautekiet as Lazio’s main target to replace Romagnoli. Il Messaggero makes the same claim. The Belgian, 24, has a €5 million release clause, and Standard Liege are holding out for that figure with no discounts, his deal runs until June 2029.
