Athletic, Barakaldo, Amorebieta and Portugalete will discover their first Copa del Rey opponents on Monday, with Sestao able to join if they beat Terrassa on Wednesday.

The Spanish football federation announced on Tuesday that the first draw of the season will take place at 13:00, using the same criteria as last campaign.

Pairings will prioritise geographic proximity and each tie will be staged at the ground of the lower-ranked club.

Athletic will face lower-division opposition. Possibilities include Anaitasuna of Gipuzkoa’s División de Honor, who beat Tedeón of La Rioja 5-0, or the winner of Ribadesella against Noja. Other options extend to sides from Tercera Federación.

Portugalete, meanwhile, will be handed a strong opponent, while Amorebieta and Barakaldo might be drawn against teams from their own level.

First-round ties are scheduled for Wednesday 28 October, the same day as Athletic’s members’ assembly. Athletic host Getafe on Sunday 25 at 14:00, then face Real the following matchday, both at San Mamés.
