Athletic have ended the window without a first-team signing, leaving Edin Terzić to rely on returnees and academy promotions, according to La Colina De Nervion.

The German, contracted until 30 June 2028, now prepares to host Atlético Madrid at San Mamés on Saturday 5 September with no scope for late reinforcements.

His first three LaLiga games brought three points, three scored and five conceded. They lost 1-3 to Sevilla, then 2-0 at Barcelona, before winning 0-2 at Celta through Álex Berenguer and Robert Navarro.

Hugo Rincón and Beñat Gerenabarrena return from Girona and Castellón respectively and have already debuted for the first team. Rincón has two appearances, while Gerenabarrena has featured in all three league matches.

Johaneko Louis-Jean, a 22-year-old full-back signed from Girondins de Bordeaux and blooded with Bilbao Athletic, has also stepped up and started at Barcelona. Álvaro Djaló returns from Al-Gharafa and has seen minutes.

Peio Canales is promoted too, although a moderate left soleus injury was announced on 1 September.

Departures have thinned the group, with Mikel Vesga joining Almería and Julen Agirrezabala moving to Racing Santander. Andoni Gorosabel has gone to Espanyol on loan with a conditional obligation to buy, and on 2 September Adama Boiro joined West Ham on loan with an option. Unai Vencedor has also left.

For Terzić’s plan to work, two pieces matter, that those who impressed in Vigo sustain that level and that Canales returns swiftly. Without both, the Atlético test looks even tougher.
