Athletic to invest nine million to widen San Mamés | OneFootball

Athletic’s treasurer Guillermo Ruiz-Longarte has set out a 15 million investment plan, headlined by work to widen San Mamés, to be presented at the General Assembly on 28 October at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao.

According to as.com, more than nine million is earmarked for the first and second phases of the San Mamés expansion, with over two million for Lezama infrastructure and almost two million for technology linked to sports medicine and business applications. The 15 million package, Ruiz-Longarte said, would be roughly triple the club’s usual outlay.

Work at La Catedral is planned to begin after this season and is described as limited in impact. The club has not specified the exact capacity increase.

Ruiz-Longarte cautioned about a season without European football, outlining a scenario with total income of 193 million, a 154 million cost base, an operating result of 38 million and a bottom line of 20 million, all without player sales.

He added that the 26-27 budget is markedly different, with projected income down to 152 million and expenses at 155 million, implying a loss of three million. He said the club will work hard to minimise or substantially reduce that deficit.
