Athletic ended a quiet summer with late manoeuvres, and Nico Serrano could still depart with other markets open. They chased deadline-day loans for full-backs Gorosabel, Espanyol, and Adama, West Ham, and terminated Vencedor’s 2027 contract before he joined Burgos.
According to El Correo, some windows remain open, including in Türkiye and Portugal, with others running to the 16th.
Without him, Edin Terzic would have 24 players. With no European football, rotation is unlikely and the target is a return next season. There were no summer signings beyond appointing the German coach, with sales around 11 million euros.
In goal, Unai Simón remains No 1. Álex Padilla is set for Copa minutes and Mikel Santos will be third choice with the B team. Julen Agirrezabala has joined Racing on a deal to 2031.
Hugo Rincón steps in at right-back after loans with Mirandés and Girona, and Gorosabel has left. Johaneko Louis-Jean is Yuri’s deputy on the left, with Lekue retired.
Laporte, Vivián, Paredes and Yeray continue at centre-back, with the World Cup winner a guaranteed pick and Vivián behind after a summer injury.
Post-Vesga, there are five natural pivots plus Peio Canales, used deeper with Sancet fixed. Beñat Gerenabarrena has impressed early. Prados is easing back and Rego is last option.
Out wide there would be six options with Serrano, some able to play as a 10 or up front, where Guruzeta and Maroan remain after Izeta left for Cádiz. If fit, Nico Williams should spearhead, with Iñaki Williams also starting and Berenguer and Robert Navarro in form.
