Pablo Barrios has made a fine start to the 2024-25 season, and he was rewarded for that form earlier this week when he made his Spain debut during the 3-2 UEFA Nations League victory over Switzerland. In the last few months, his prominence at Atletico Madrid has also risen significantly, to the point that he is now a regular starter.
Barrios’ performances for Atleti have not gone unnoticed across Europe, and especially in England. In recent weeks, he’s been linked to the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, although Los Colchoneros are determined to keep him at the Metropolitano for many more years to come.
As per Diario AS, Atleti are preparing to offer Barrios a new contract – as part of this, his salary would increase from €1m to €3m. He would not be among the club’s highest earners, but this change highlights his importance at the club.
Barrios has shown no signs of wanting to leave Atletico Madrid, so it would be no surprise if a new contract was agreed in the coming months. If so, it would be an excellent move.
