Aubameyang has ended his Gabon career after feeling singled out following the team’s failure at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Superdeporte reports. He departs as the country’s all-time leading scorer.
He was presented on Tuesday as a new RC Deportivo player, marking his return to LaLiga after a spell at Barcelona in 2021-22.
The Deportivo forward said he felt humiliated and that his image had been tarnished, noting he played at the tournament while injured.
He added that the episode was the final straw and that he preferred to draw a line under his time with the Panthers.
He also rejected being made the scapegoat for every issue around the national team, arguing the problems run far deeper than him.
The manner of the conclusion, he said, leaves a bitter taste.
