According to Florian Plettenberg, AS Monaco centre-back Chrislain Matsima is set to sign for FC Ausgburg with immediate effect.
It has previously been reported that the Fuggerstädter are looking to reinforce their midfield before the end of the deadline later this evening, with Celtic set to sign Arne Engels from the Bundesliga outfit.
Thus far, Augsburg have targeted former OGC Nice midfielder Alexis Claude-Maurice, who is close to signing for the club as a free agent.
As well as this, Jess Thorup’s side are exploring a deal for Brentford’s Frank Onyeka, with talks considered to be in the advanced stages with the Premier League side.
However, Augsburg are also looking to add depth to their backline and have now also reached a total agreement with Monaco regarding a deal to sign Matsima.
It is understood that the centre-back will sign on an initial loan, but, as stated in the report, the Fuggerstädter will have the option of making the deal permanent at the end of the season for €5 million.
Matsima is already in Germany to undergo his medical before his move to Augsburg is made official.
