Augsburg will be without Noah-Kai Banks for an extended spell after the defender sustained a lateral collateral ligament injury in his right knee on Germany U-21 duty. The club said in a statement that he will be absent for the time being.

Banks was hurt during a 4-1 win over Malta in a European Championship qualifier last Wednesday. The extent of the problem was confirmed by examinations in recent days.

The 19-year-old centre-back has left the U-21 training camp and will carry out his rehabilitation in Augsburg.

Depending on the severity of the injury, recovery can take from two to 12 weeks.

There was no mention of surgery, which would elongate the recovery process.
