Aurélien Tchouaméni will be rested after sustaining a groin problem with France at the World Cup, having missed Real Madrid's La Liga opener last weekend.

José Mourinho said on Tuesday, on the eve of the home game against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabéu, that the midfielder will sit out for one or two weeks. He added Madrid's transfer business is considered closed, though a squad exit remains possible.

He stressed it is not a relapse. Tchouaméni struggled during the tournament, missed several matches, then returned for the semi finals and took risks. The player and staff agreed a short pause was wiser to let him come back at 100 per cent rather than start a season in pain.

Tchouaméni did not feature in any pre-season game for Madrid. He was also left out of the matchday squad for the 2-1 win over Espanyol Barcelona on Saturday.

He did not take part in Tuesday's group training.
