Fredrik Aursnes is being hailed as a hometown star in Hareid, where the Benfica midfielder has become a focal point of celebrations planned around Norway’s World Cup campaign, including their meeting with France on 26 June.
According to Glorioso 1904, the local club and municipality will stage a special event on the day of Norway v France, expected to bring together dozens of residents and supporters. The programme features music, entertainment, match predictions, food, drink and various activities.
A commemorative shirt created for the World Cup has caught the eye, and demand has been so strong that it is close to selling out.
Aursnes remains a key figure for Benfica since arriving in 2022/23, valued for his versatility, consistency and capacity to slot into multiple roles. He is contracted until 2029, protected by a €50 million release clause.
In 2025/26 he made 49 competitive appearances across Liga Portugal, the Champions League, Taça de Portugal, Taça da Liga and the Supertaça. Across 4,088 minutes he scored four goals and supplied eight assists, underlining his influence for the Lisbon club and his standing back home.
