Auston Trusty looking ahead to Rugby Park

After a late return from the World Cup, Auston Trusty may have been expecting a delicate easing in process before taking his place in the first team this season.

However, with fellow centre-back, Liam Scales under suspension for Flag Night here at Celtic Park, the United States internationalist slotted in right away and played his part in the 1-0 win over Dundee.

Now, as the second weekend of games is upon us, he has his mind set on the visit to Kilmarnock this Sunday with the Champions aiming to pick up another three points on Rugby Park’s new pitch.

The Ayrshire side travelled to Perth last Sunday and suffered a 4-3 defeat to newly-promoted St Johnstone, but Trusty is concentrating on himself and his team-mates going into the game.

The 27-year-old said: “I think it's more on us. I think we just need to play our game and do our thing.

'We've got to look inwards and play the Celtic way and play our game that kind of takes care of itself.'

“Obviously, we have good players and a good team, but we can't take them lightly, though we've got to look inwards.”

And on the playing surface and the difference it could make, he added: “I think any team that went there in the past, you're thinking, ‘Oh, they've got to play on this pitch today.’

“Obviously, you grind the wins and you have success there.

“But having a nice pitch there to actually play some good football, have the potential to play good football, that's positive”

The World Cup saw Trusty score the opener in his country’s game against Turkey, and he’s determined that the experience of playing in the sport’s top international tournament will be a positive one going ahead into this season.

On having a positive reaction to the World Cup, he said: I'm growing every single day, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, you know, day by day, and I'm just growing, so I hope so.

“I’ll just keep doing what I'm doing.”
