Leeds United’s move for Igor Paixao may be complicated by Aston Villa’s interest, while Marseille’s plans and a goalkeeper link are also in play.
The Daily Mail reports Villa are considering a move for the Brazilian, with Leeds linked for the past two summers. He chose Marseille over Elland Road last year, and the French club now need funds so Paixao is expected to be moved on.
Villa can offer Champions League football this season after finishing in the top four and winning the Europa League, a lure Leeds cannot match.
Marseille have been linked with Real Oviedo winger Haissem Hassan, but the Scottish Sun says Celtic have lodged an £8m bid, which it reports is beyond Marseille’s budget. They are instead said to be eyeing free agent Krepin Diatta.
That situation could aid Leeds, with Marseille reportedly needing around £128.68m to satisfy league rules and avoid relegation sanctions.
Reports in South America claimed Leeds had made a formal offer for Paraguay goalkeeper Orlando Gill at San Lorenzo de Almagro, but Sky Sports says no bid has been made.
Leeds have already unveiled goalkeeper James Trafford after a £45m offer was accepted nearly two weeks earlier. Bosnia and Herzegovina defender Tarik Muharemovic has joined from Sassuolo for £34.1m and Harry Wilson arrived as a free agent. The window closes on 1 September at 11pm.
