World Cup preparations continue with summer tournament looming large

Austria and Ghana continue their World Cup preparations today, facing off in a friendly at the Ernst Happel-Stadion. This year’s will be a first World Cup appearance for Austria since France 1998, when they were dumped out in the group stages, and their campaign starts today. With Ralf Rangnick in the dugout, they progressed fairly easily through their qualification pool and will hope to do the same in their group this summer.

Otto Adda’s Ghana, meanwhile, booked their place at the summer tournament with relative ease, winning eight of their ten qualifiers despite failing to qualify for this year’s Africa Cup of Nations. They have lost their last two matches, though, at the hands of Japan and South Korea, and will hope to get back to winning ways today with the tournament now just a few months away.
