Eintracht Frankfurt triumphed 3-1 at 1. FSV Mainz 05 thanks to a Can Uzun brace and a Jonathan Burkardt goal, with Noah Atubolu also saving a penalty.

Bundesliga debut for Aseko Head coach Adi Hütter made two changes to the team that started in the home match against FC Augsburg, with Noel Aseko and Jeremiaha Maluze preferred to Younes Ebnoutalib and Mario Götze. For Aseko, it meant his Bundesliga and Eintracht debut. Oscar Højlund was not available because of a hip problem, while Farès Chaibi was absent with a cold. 

Uzun opens scoringThe Eagles made a solid start to the game and were dangerous from the beginning with quick counter-attacking play. The first chance arrived in the sixth minute, when Ritsu Doan hit the left post with a shot from 16 metres on the turn.Three minutes later, Eintracht broke with Jonathan Burkardt, who set up Can Uzun perfectly for a simple finish from close range.Atubolu saves Mainz penaltyMainz had a chance to equalise shortly before half-time after a coming-together between Raphael Onyedika and Sheraldo Becker in the box, but Eintracht goalkeeper Noah Atubolu parried Nadiem Amiri’s penalty with a strong save. 

Burkardt doubles leadThe hosts were left ruing that missed penalty in added time as Mazule’s long ball found its way through to Burkardt, who shrugged off Fabio Gruber before firing in from 11 metres to make it 2-0.Uzun nets secondMainz came out with urgency for the second half, but it was the Eagles who scored next. Having just come on for Aseko, Götze played in Uzun, who made it 3-0 from four metres. 

Late consolationThe 05ers battled to find a way back into the game but the Frankfurt defence stood firm, although they were denied a clean sheet by Phillip Tietz in the closing stages. Nevertheless, the Eagles came away with a deserved three points after a strong performance at the MEWA ARENA.
