Axel Witsel is pushing for his continuity at Atlético Madrid to be confirmed quickly, as with Euro 2024 coming up, he wants his future to be secured before heading to Germany.

As much is reported by Marca, who have confirmed that the Belgian star’s renewal is on track to take place in the next couple of weeks.

Witsel said, “We are currently discussing a new contract with Atlético. I want it to be fixed before the Euros. My hope is to stay. I feel good here and so does my family.“

Another season at Atléti would be Witsel’s third in the Spanish capital, and his seventh since returning from his two-season stint playing in China.

Another season in Madrid would almost certainly see the Belgian surpass 100 matches for Los Colchoneros, as he is currently sitting on 94.

Axel Witsel was a key figure in Belgium’s third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup, and although Belgium have regressed a bit since then, he will still be looking to contribute to a strong Belgian showing at Euro 2024.
