As we finally wrap up 2025, Barcelona are gearing up for an important and rather busy 2026, where the club will be expected to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window.
Robert Lewandowski’s contract at Camp Nou expires at the end of the season. Although there’s still a chance it could be renewed, Barcelona will inevitably have to find a replacement.
The club have been linked with multiple stars, but one option that stands out the most is Julian Alvarez, the player who has already proven himself in La Liga and could be an ideal long-term investment for the Blaugrana.
A recent report from SPORT has offered an update on Barcelona’s pursuit of Julian Alvarez.
The report suggests the Catalans are still interested in the services of the Argentine international, who has racked up as many as 40 goals in just 80 matches for Atleti.

However, Alvarez is not a priority option for Barcelona right now, which does make sense given the complexities involved in the operation.
Atletico Madrid, after all, have no desire to part ways with their biggest star, having only signed him a year and half ago.
Even if the club consider selling the Argentine, Barcelona won’t make their list of ideal suitors as the Catalans are a direct rival.
Although the report suggests Barcelona have maintained contact with Alvarez’s camp, these are only routine moves taken by every club in Europe and as things stand, they have not made any concrete move whatsoever to sign the Atleti star.
Everything suggests Barcelona are playing the waiting game, waiting not only for Atleti to get pressurised but also for the club itself to come out of the economic hole they are in.
