Schalke are concerned over first-choice goalkeeper Loris Karius after he withdrew at short notice before the 5-3 home win against 1.FC Magdeburg on Saturday.

According to BuLi News, the 32-year-old was unable to start, with back trouble cited despite efforts to be ready.

Coach Miron Muslic said Karius attempted a short-notice fitness test but did not pass, and he added they do not expect the problem to be serious.

Whether Karius is available for next Saturday against Greuther Fürth is likely to become clear only later in the week.

Until then, it remains uncertain if he can return to training or must continue his break, which would hand Kevin Müller more minutes.
