According to L'Équipe, two Spaniards and two Swedes headline the five nominees for the Ballon d'Or 2026 women’s team coach award, with the quintet vying to succeed Sarina Wiegman.
Pere Romeu restored Barcelona to Europe’s summit by beating Lyon 4-0 in the final. Jonatan Giraldez, beaten that night with OL Lyonnes, delivered a domestic treble of the French league, Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue in his first season.
Elena Sadiku lifted the Coupe Europa with Häcken after arriving from Celtic Glasgow in December 2025. Andrée Jeglertz guided Manchester City to a league and FA Cup double.
The shortlist is completed by Nils Nielsen, the Danish coach of Japan, out of post since April 2026, who won the Asian Cup with a record of eight wins, one draw and one defeat.
Romeu, 32, and Giraldez, 34, are under contract until June 2028. Jeglertz, 54, is signed at Manchester City to 2029, and Sadiku, 32, is with Häcken through December 2028. Nielsen, 54, has no current role.
