Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane is one of the early front-runners for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding year.

Kane is a shoo-in for a top five finish after bagging 61 goals and seven assists in 51 appearances for Bayern as they claimed a domestic treble.

The England national team captain scored another six goals for his country before he carried that terrific form into the 2026 World Cup.

Kane bagged another six goals as the Three Lions finished third this summer.

He scored more than Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal, the two other favourites for the award this year.

The La Liga pair have publicly campaigned for the award, while reigning holder Ousmane Dembele has also made his case to be in the running.

However, Kane wants to let his goals do the talking ahead of the event on October 26.

Kane said (via Marca): “I don’t like talking about myself – the 73 goals speak for themselves.”

Kane deserves the big prize

The 33-year-old won trophies. Mbappe did not, and his output dwarfs Yamal and Dembele’s. He should get his deserved recognition on the night.

Bayern, including Michael Olise, who also has a case to feature in the top five too, are backing Kane to bring home the big award.

It has been quite amusing watching so many of the leading contenders make their public rounds to stake their claim for the Ballon d’Or.

From Mbappe and Yamal making no secret of their ambitions to Dembele putting forward his own case, there has been no shortage of campaigning ahead of the big night.

Even Kane, despite insisting he would rather let his numbers do the talking, has now had his say with that pointed reminder of his 73 goals.

Ultimately, the voters will decide, but the sheer amount of self-promotion from the contenders has added another layer of intrigue to an already fascinating Ballon d’Or race.
