BAP says Flamengo season was at risk under Filipe Luís

Flamengo president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as BAP, told club councillors he dismissed coach Filipe Luís because, in his view, the club’s season was at risk.

According to Globo.com, BAP addressed a Thursday night meeting and set out his reasoning in a speech lasting a little over six minutes.

He said the dismissal was neither an individual nor a hasty call, describing it as part of an established process within the football department.

Before the change, he said he had attempted a course correction but concluded it was not possible, so the club acted.

He added that the job requires difficult decisions even if they displease supporters, and stressed that recent changes do not diminish Filipe Luís’s contribution or the history he built at Flamengo as a player and coach.
