Barcelona and Manchester City still far apart over Rodri deal | OneFootball

Over the last days, speculation about the Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernandez’s transfer to FC Barcelona have gained a lot of steam. After rejecting the offer from Real Madrid, the player gave his nod to the Blaugranes, and reportedly already has an agreement with them.

Meanwhile, the Catalans are negotiating with City for his signing. They saw their first offer of €50 million rejected by the Premier League side, but negotiations continue between them. Some reports have gone as far as saying that the two clubs already have an agreement in place, but this is not true for now.

In fact, according to MARCA, the two negotiating clubs are not even as close to reaching an agreement as has been portrayed in the media. Although Barcelona and Manchester City have good relations, an agreement for Rodri’s transfer is not really imminent.

The two clubs are going to continue negotiations with a meeting between Deco and Hugo Viana, the sporting directors of the involved clubs, in the coming hours. The Citizens want around €70 million for their star midfielder, but the Blaugranes are not willing to reach this sum. Performances related variables are expected to break the deadlock, and the two officials will look to resolve this matter in their upcoming meeting.

Deco will be particularly keen to see this operation complete soon, as Hansi Flick wants his team to be finalized as soon as possible. There are less than two weeks left till the start of the next season, and he would ideally want to have Rodri available to him on Wednesday, the same day that his own Spanish national team players will return to club training.

However, with important aspects of the transfer still to be finalized, it is highly unlikely that the operation will be concluded by that time, and even after that, the player will have to undergo medical tests before he can join Barcelona in training.
