Barcelona are hoping to wrap up the signing of Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri in the coming days. They already have personal terms in place, and while their opening offer was recently turned down, there is confidence that they will soon get their man.

Going into the summer, Barcelona had not planned to sign a new midfielder, but with Frenkie de Jong facing months out with a knee injury, the decision was made for a signing to be sought. Rodri was always at the top of their list, and after Real Madrid stalled on a move, the Catalans swooped in and agreed personal terms.

They are now in talks with Man City, and according to Sport, Barcelona are ready to finalise a deal by paying the asking price that has been set. The Premier League giants are reportedly seeking €70m in spite of Rodri having a year less on his contract, but sporting director Deco is ready to submit an offer of €65m with €5m add-ons included.

Barcelona want to end Rodri saga quickly

Rodri is poised to return to Manchester in the coming days to continue his rehabilitation following recent surgery, and Barcelona are keen to avoid this happening. Thus, they are ready to get a deal doon as soon as possible, and their way of doing this is to pay the asking price that Man City have put in place.

Barcelona will not have Rodri available for the start of the 2026-27 season even if he is signed now, but it does make sense to wrap things up as soon as possible. They cannot risk another club making a move as they did when Real Madrid were in the driving seat, and they do have the money available – especially if they receive €50m from the expected sale of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain.
