According to L'Équipe, Barcelona and Real Madrid paid tribute on Tuesday to Lucien Muller, who has died aged 91. The Frenchman represented both clubs.

Arriving from Stade de Reims, he crossed the Pyrenees in 1962 to join the Merengues for three seasons.

In 1965 he moved to Barcelona, again spending three seasons with the Blaugranas, at a time when the rivalry was less intense than today.

Real noted that Muller won three Spanish league titles with them and pointed to his later coaching career in Spain. The club did not cite Barça, where he worked in 1978-1979 but was dismissed before the season ended.

His dugout spells also included Castellon, Burgos, Saragosse and Majorque, spread across two decades from 1970 to 1992.
