Barcelona are set to go into a crucial stage of the season, headlined by El Clasico, and in need of a reaction after a 4-1 defeat to Sevilla, with a considerable drain on their resources due to injuries. Hence why it has not gone down to well that one of their star players took a risk with their fitness during in the international break – one that did not pay off.

Already Barcelona are without Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres and Raphinha, and the hope is that they will get Fermin Lopez and Lamine Yamal back after the international break. With doubts over Torres’ condition, Robert Lewandowski was due to return to the starting XI. Yet on Tuesday the Polish forward pulled up with a hamstring injury too.

Barcelona ‘baffled’ by Lewandowski behaviour

However they believe that Lewandowski’s injury may have been preventable, or at the very least, handled far better. MD say that Barcelona are bewildered by the fact that Lewandowski continued to play on for Poland after feeling a twinge in his hamstring on Tuesday night. The 37-year-old went down early on, and then ended up playing with a compression bandage on his leg.

The veteran forward would go on to complete the 90 minutes for his national team, scoring in the 66th minute of a 2-0 win over Lithuania in the World Cup qualifiers. Afterwards he was diagnosed with a hamstring tear that will keep him out for a minimum of a month. The Blaugrana are reportedly baffled by such careless behaviour from a veteran.

What will Lewandowski miss?

In addition to El Clasico against Real Madrid, Lewandowski wil likely miss a minimum of five games; Girona (H), Olympiakos (H), Real Madrid (A),  Elche (H), Club Brugge (A) and Celta Vigo (A). That takes Barcelona up to the international break in November, after which they will host Athletic Club and then travel to Chelsea, games for which they would plan to have Lewandowski back.
