In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a move for Red Bull Leipzig defender Lukas Klostermann. It has been stated that the Catalan club are hoping to land the German talent on a free transfer.
Klostermann has been a useful presence in Leipzig’s match-day squad this season after putting in a series of solid displays on the defensive end of the pitch. The 27-year-old has made 13 appearances for the German club during this campaign but is still waiting to score or assist a goal for them across all fronts.
The German sensation has been a regular feature off the bench and has done well to average 0.4 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after completing 90.2% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the German club will run out at the end of this campaign. Hence, it makes sense for Barca to try and sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Klostermann can do a little bit of everything on the defensive third of the pitch. He is a decent tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to earn the ball back for his team.
The German defensive ace usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and is an accurate passer of the ball as well. He is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a left-back or play as a central defender if asked to do so by his manager.
We can expect Klostermann to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s defence. He is good enough to help the Catalan club compete across all competitions over the next few years.
At 27, Klostermann is about to enter his prime and could be a good, cost-effective option for Barca to consider at the end of this campaign. However, he is yet to prove his worth outside his homeland and would need time to settle into life at the Nou Camp.
