With only a few weeks left till the end of this summer transfer window, FC Barcelona continue to await developments at Atletico Madrid before they can make their next move to sign their top-priority target of the summer, Julian Alvarez.

After having returned to train at his club’s facilities last Monday, the Argentine forward was unable to meet his head coach, Diego Simeone, on that day. The striker had planned to talk to his coach to find a way out of the Colchonero club, and the tactician’s absence made him quite angry.

However, he ultimately got to meet Simeone on Wednesday, and the two individuals also had the awaited chat. Reports suggest that it was a rather cordial interaction, in which the player reiterated his desire to leave Atletico Madrid and join Barcelona. However, the coach made it clear that not negotiating his departure was a club decision, and that he was counting on the forward for the next season.

With this planned talk already having taken place, Mundo Deportivo reports that the Blaugranes are now waiting to see how Alvarez would respond. The player can either choose to continue with his plan of pressing his club to agree to his departure by either making a public statement or even undertaking a complete standoff against the Colchonero club. On the other hand, he can also end up accepting his fate, and giving up on joining Barcelona this summer.

If that ends up being the case, the Catalans will have to find another player to replace Robert Lewandowski in their squad. Recently, they have been strongly linked with the Inter Milan star Lautaro Martinez, but it is clear that their top priority still remains Julian Alvarez. For now, it remains to be seen how this story will develop, with the transfer window closing in a few weeks.
