Barcelona are hoping to sign a new striker next summer, with the expectation that Robert Lewandowski will leave at the end of his contract. A number of targets have been drawn up in recent months, and one that is gaining a lot of traction within Can Barca is Levante’s Karl Etta Eyong.

It has been a fantastic start to the season for Etta Eyong, who has five goals and three assists in eight La Liga appearances. Barcelona already had him on their radar prior to him joining Levante from Villarreal in the final days of the summer transfer window, but they have since stepped up their interest – and there is a feeling that the 21-year-old would also welcome a move to Catalonia.

Etta Eyong joined Levante for a bargain price, but as part of that arrangement, Villarreal have secured advantageous sell-on clauses. And as it turns out, these could end up playing into Barcelona’s hands. As per Cadena SER, there is feeling within Can Barca that the Cameroonian could join next summer for as little as €15m.

According to the report, the agreement between Levante and Villarreal includes a key detail: if a club offers €15m or more, the Valencians must either accept the offer or pay the Yellow Submarine the profit that the sale would have generated. In this regard, it is expected that Barcelona could get their man for that price, rather than paying his €30m release clause.

Barcelona are yet to decide their preferred striker target

Barcelona will need a new striker if Lewandowski leaves next summer, although sporting director Deco’s recent comments have hinted that one may not arrive – even if the Pole departs. However, it would make sense to bring in someone like Etta Eyong in this case, especially given that €15m would be very affordable. But for now, no decision has been made on who will be prioritised as a target.
