The brass at La Liga champions Barcelona were left nothing short of shocked by the decision of Hansi Flick to afford a start to Marc-André ter Stegen in the club’s latest outing.
This comes with Deco and co. hopeful of pushing the German out during the January transfer window.
Goalkeeper Ter Stegen was of course in from the off on Tuesday night, as Barcelona kicked their Copa del Rey campaign into gear in a meeting with Guadalajara.
This selection call turned heads amongst fans and media members alike, with the 33-year-old having previously been considered as completely out of the Blaugrana’s plans.
And as alluded to above, none were left more bemused by Ter Stegen’s return than the board at the Spotify Camp Nou.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo:
‘When the starting lineup was confirmed, the sense of surprise and astonishment was significant at the management and executive levels.’
The Barca hierarchy are of the collective opinion that ‘the most logical strategy’ was to leave Ter Stegen on the bench, to make crystal clear to the shot-stopper once again that he does not feature in their sporting strategy moving forward.
