FC Barcelona have some big plans for the upcoming summer transfer window as they would be looking to strengthen their team ahead of the next season. They are looking for several reinforcements, both in attack and defense.
Meanwhile, another task that the Blaugrana sporting department would have at their hands in the market would be the departure of some players who are not in the plans of Hansi Flick.
In this sense, one of the most complicated cases could once again be that of goalkeeper Marc Andre ter Stegen, who is becoming a source of concern for the club heading into the summer.
As Mundo Deportivo reports, the German goalkeeper, currently on loan at Girona since January, is still recovering from a long-term injury at Barcelona’s facilities. On top of that, he has also been left out of Germany’s squad for the upcoming World Cup, with Manuel Neuer preferred instead, a setback that adds further uncertainty to his situation.
Ter Stegen still has two years left on his contract, running until 2028, and his wages remain among the highest in the current squad. This high salary, combined with his injury history, makes it difficult for Barcelona to find potential suitors in the market.
From the player’s side, the situation is also not straightforward. Ter Stegen would prefer to stay either at Barcelona or continue at Girona. However, he is not part of Hansi Flick’s plans, and Barcelona are also not counting on him going forward.
In Girona’s case, any decision would depend on their sporting situation, with La Liga survival a key condition before considering another loan spell next season.
For now, Marc-Andre ter Stegen remains one of the more complicated issues for Barcelona to resolve ahead of the summer transfer window.
