Barcelona are having a difficult time trying to secure the services of a new striker, which is their priority in the transfer market. Their pursuit of Julian Alvarez has been far from straightforward, and with no obvious alternative having been lined up, it is far from certain that a number nine ends up coming into the Spotify Camp Nou.
With that in mind, Barcelona are moving to consolidate what they have. As things stand, Ferran Torres is the only natural striker option in Hansi Flick’s squad, but even he has an uncertain future, in that his contract expires in 2027. However, the hope is that this will soon be changed.
Barcelona had planned to address Torres’ situation during the early stages of the 2026-27 season, but according to MD, the idea is now for a renewal agreement to be sought during the summer. The decision has been made for talks to take place with his representatives in the coming weeks, with a view to a new deal being done.
Since being converted to a striker, Torres has been in very impressive form for Barcelona. He’s scored 40 goals across his last two seasons (94 appearances), and this has generally come when he has not been the first-choice option – which would also be the case if the Catalans manage to bring in Alvarez or another big name in the summer.

He may not be the most popular option among supporters, but there is little doubt that Torres is a very important player for Barcelona. His record since Flick’s arrival has been very good, and as far as a squad option goes, there are not too many better out there on the market.
Furthermore, it would be no surprise if an agreement was reached swiftly, given that Torres is said to prioritise Barcelona above all other options.
