According to an update from SPORT, Barcelona have been dealt a major blow as Raphinha’s availability for the upcoming El Clasico against Real Madrid is now in serious doubt.

The outlet mentions that the superstar forward has suffered a setback in his recovery process and could miss one of the most crucial fixtures of the season.

Raphinha sustained his injury two weeks ago after the match against Real Oviedo. Initially, he was ruled out of the clashes against Girona and Olympiacos, with hopes that he would return in time for the trip to the Santiago Bernabeu.

However, his recovery has not progressed as expected, and the latest tests have revealed discomfort in his hamstring once again, indicating that his condition is more severe than first thought.

No light at the end of the tunnel

The plan was for Raphinha to gradually return to the pitch this week, using the games against Girona and Olympiacos as preparation for El Clasico.

Instead, this crucial recovery period has turned into a setback that has left his participation in the high-stakes clash on October 26 completely uncertain.

At present, he has not been able to train on the pitch since the international break.

With just four days remaining before the Girona fixture, he continues to work individually in the gym and hasn’t yet trained even separately from the main group.

This lack of progress has left the coaching staff concerned.

Hansi Flick and his medical team are fully aware of how vital Raphinha is to Barcelona’s tactical system, particularly his directness, creativity, and pressing ability on the right wing.

As such, they are taking a cautious approach, preferring to delay his return until he is fully fit rather than risk aggravating the injury.

Ultimately, while the Blaugrana boss remains hopeful of a late turnaround, the chances of Raphinha featuring in El Clasico are growing increasingly slim.
