Barcelona chief aims dig at Atlético Madrid over Julián Alvarez

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has this weekend aimed a less-than-subtle jibe at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid. This of course comes amid the Blaugrana’s ongoing pursuit of Julián Alvarez.

The name of frontman Alvarez has continued to dominate the media headlines across Spain over the last week. As Barcelona continue to publicly express their interest in a summer deal for the Argentine, Atléti on Friday sniped back in unwavering fashion.

Drawn on Alvarez’s name during an exchange with the media, Rojiblancos CEO Miguel Angel Gil assured:

“My position is clear, the club’s position is clear. We’ve made it known to the player, his representatives, and the president of Barcelona.

“I have absolutely no doubt that Atlético is the right place in the world for Julián, and that Julián is the perfect centre-forward for Atlético Madrid. We want to keep him.”

And as alluded to above, on Sunday, Barca have hit back, through the always outspoken Joan Laporta.

During his own discussion with the Spanish press earlier today, the Spanish patron made use of the opportunity to aim a dig at Atlético, over their stance regarding an ‘unhappy player’:

“A big club can not allow unhappy players in their squad. At Barcelona, this will never happen.”
