Ansu Fati had become a problem for Barcelona this summer, but the player’s camp moved quickly to secure a loan deal with an option to buy with AS Monaco.
The Catalans needed to offload a significant portion of his salary, so they agreed to extend his contract until 2028, defer part of his wages, and facilitate his move to the Ligue 1 side.
After a slow start with Monaco, Ansu has rediscovered his form and goalscoring touch in recent weeks, putting in impressive performances for his loan club.
However, according to SPORT, the Barcelona sporting department does not plan to bring the La Masia graduate back to the club next season.
Instead, they are waiting to see if he maintains his level so that Monaco exercise the full purchase option of €11 million.
Ansu’s departure this summer was already viewed as a near-final step. Barcelona had initially sought a permanent transfer, but the options available did not convince the player, who preferred a loan move to Monaco from the outset.
Within the club, he was not part of the future plans, and that remains unchanged, although the academy graduate would still like to have another chance to succeed at Barcelona.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, recently visited the Catalan capital and is fully aware that the club’s stance on the player’s future has not changed despite his strong performances.
Barcelona’s plan is to move forward without Ansu, convinced that the winger will not return to the squad after 30 June. At 22 years old, his career could still take many turns, and a future return cannot be ruled out completely, but it will not be next season.
Several Premier League clubs are closely monitoring his progress, but Ansu is happy in Monaco despite not fully connecting with the new coach, Sebastien Pocognoli, who replaced Adi Hutter as the manager.
The Barcelona academy graduate knows he has found a positive environment and a league suited to his style of play, and his goal is to establish himself there for a while.
If he continues to improve physically, he would like to return to La Liga in the future, with Atletico Madrid having enquired about him before.
As things stand, though, the only certainty is that Barcelona have decided that they will not bring him back.
