The young forward Roony Bardghji was one of the players who was likely to leave FC Barcelona this summer. After having joined the Catalan club only last year, the Swede found game time very hard to come by, as he plays in the same position as Lamine Yamal.
As a result, he asked the club for a transfer at the end of the last season, and was enjoying interest from several top-level clubs across Europe. Lately, he was likely to leave for a Premier League side, but things have taken an unfortunate turn for him.
As Diario AS has reported, the worst fears about Bardghji have been realized. Today, reports emerged of a training injury, but its extent was not confirmed, and it was feared that he had torn his ACL. Now, Barcelona have confirmed that this is the case, and he will have to undergo surgery to recover from this issue. This means he will have to spend the next several months on the sidelines, and he will not be able to secure a transfer this summer.
The Catalans had been quite careful with the forward, keeping in view his imminent transfer. This was clear when he was not named in the squad for the preseason trip to Italy, where the Blaugrana team played friendly games against Udinese and Nottingham Forest.
A transfer is now ruled out with this injury. However, Barcelona will be able to use his salary space and squad spot to register another player, as he is expected to remain unavailable for a prolonged period of time. This could be particularly helpful for the club after their return to the 1:1 status.
However, this is a bitter blow for Roony Bardghji, who had already suffered a problem in this same knee, and thus would have to spend more time on the sidelines this time. It remains to be seen when he will be ready to return to the pitch, and how his future at Barcelona will unfold.
