One of the biggest decisions FC Barcelona have to make in the coming months is whether or not to retain the services of ace goalscorer Robert Lewandowski.
At 37, the Poland captain is entering the final phase of his career, and his contract expires at the end of the season on 30 June.
The general expectation so far has been that Barça will part ways with the striker and look to bring in a top-quality replacement in the summer – Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid popping up as the main target.
However, in a fresh development, ESPN’s Moi Llorens reports that Barcelona are now considering the prospect of offering Lewandowski a new contract.
Indeed, the Blaugrana are open to the idea of extending the veteran superstar’s stay at the Spotify Camp Nou beyond the ongoing season, but only if he accepts reduced wages.
As per the report, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is very pleased with Lewandowski’s commitment, professionalism, and performances this season.

It is why the club are now considering extending his stay at least until 2027, as they believe he can still have an important role in the locker room.
As mentioned above, though, the Catalans’ main objective remains to sign a new striker that can compete with Ferran Torres for the starting spot.
However, they are no longer averse to the idea of keeping Lewandowski around for another year at least, as long as he is accepting of a secondary role along with a lowered salary.
By reducing his wages, Barcelona will be able to free up space for new arrivals in the summer, with a new striker and a centre-back on the club’s agenda.
There have been no negotiations with Lewandowski or his camp so far, but Barça director Deco and manager Flick intend to speak to him sooner rather than later to resolve the matter.
