La Liga giants Barcelona could be forced to play out their opening home fixture of the 2025/26 campaign in front of a heavily reduced crowd.

That’s according to Catalan outlet Tot Costa, who have this week provided an insight into the situation.

The subject of the club’s stadium woes has of course long dominated the headlines surrounding Spanish champions Barca.

This comes after the return of Hansi Flick’s squad to the beloved Spotify Camp Nou was repeatedly pushed back.

Earlier this month, it was announced that plans for the upcoming Joan Gamper Trophy match to be played at the renovated ground had been scrapped.

As much came with the construction process not progressing as hoped.

And as alluded to above, should this remain the case for the next couple of months, then Barcelona’s La Liga campaign could well be impacted, too.

The Blaugrana are due to play their first home fixture of the 2025/26 season against Valencia, on September 14th.

The plan, until now, has been for as much to take place at the Camp Nou.

As confirmed by Tot Costa, however, with as much still far from assured, the Estadi Johan Cruyff is being readied as a backup option to host the outing.

The stadium, named after Barca legend Johan Cruyff, boasts a capacity of just 6,000.
