Barcelona have announced that goalkeeper Joan Garcia is ruled out for around four to six weeks after picking up an injury.
The 24-year-old has torn the internal meniscus in his left knee and will undergo surgery.
This development is a major setback for manager Hansi Flick, who is already without Brazilian forward Raphinha for three weeks.
Barcelona currently occupy second place in La Liga and will have to cope without Garcia in crucial upcoming matches.
Their immediate concern is the home clash against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, a tie where his absence will be strongly felt.
The injury also puts his availability for the El Clasico on October 26 in doubt.
Flick is expected to rely on experienced Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny to step in until Garcia is fit to return.
Garcia’s setback arrives at a time when Barcelona need stability at the back, and losing their main goalkeeper could impact their momentum.
The Spaniard had been steadily cementing his role in the starting line-up, providing confidence and composure in recent matches.
Barcelona’s season faces an early test of depth, with Flick tasked to manage without two important figures in his squad.
