Barcelona defender addresses future amid Premier League interest – ‘The truth is…’ | OneFootball

Gerard Martin arrived at Barcelona airport on Friday afternoon to undergo surgery for the dislocation of the fifth metacarpal in his right hand – an injury that requires immediate medical intervention.

The full-back suffered the injury while playing for Spain at the UEFA Under-21 European Championships against Slovakia – in a game which the 23-year-old started.

Martin opens up on his future

Upon arrival, Martin addressed the recent reports concerning his future. Two Premier League clubs, Wolves and Bournemouth, are interested in the left-back following a season in which he emerged as a key figure under Hansi Flick, particularly after Alejandro Balde’s injury.

“These are things that come up. In the end, I don’t take any notice, I’m focused on Barça and the truth is that I’m happy with my season,” Martin told Jijantes.

The Barcelona defender added: “I think the coaching staff are also happy with me, with my progress and what I still have to improve. The truth is that I don’t think about anything other than Barça. I am calm.”

Martin signed a new contract with Barcelona earlier this year, committing himself to the club until the summer of 2028.

Barcelona, for their part, would be open to offers for the Spaniard and have even identified Alejandro Grimaldo as a possible replacement.

However, at the moment, the 23-year-old has no desire to leave the club despite interest from two teams in the Premier League.
